Familiar answers are familiar for a reason. Look a little further: something specific, overlooked, or wonderfully unexpected.

In Krillion and Cosmillion, an uncommon valid answer sends you deeper or higher. A clever pick can change your whole round.
What makes an answer rare? The game’s own answer tiers decide the score. Our picks come from its highest two published tiers.
Why is everyone’s first answer the same? Memory favors familiar examples. Specific varieties and less obvious names can break that pattern.

What is a rare-answer game?
A prompt can have many correct answers. The challenge is to find a valid answer that earns a high rarity rating, rather than the first familiar example that comes to mind. Each game sets its own accepted answers and scoring rules.
Can I read a hint without seeing the answer?
Yes. Open a dated guide and read the prompt and its hint first. Answer sections stay folded until you choose to reveal them. The homepage and archive links do not show the answer picks.
Does an unusual answer always earn more points?
It must be accepted by the game first. An obscure word that misses the prompt is still a wrong answer. Rarity also depends on that game's answer board, so a high-scoring answer in one game may not receive the same score elsewhere.
Why does my first answer feel so obvious afterward?
Familiar examples are easy to recall under a timer. Before submitting, try another region, a specific variety or a less familiar member of the same category. Keep the wording of the prompt in mind as you look for a valid alternative.
